World Studies Resource Center >> The World Map >> Thank you! The Department of the Foreign Language Literature present a project "The World Studies Resource Center" MISSION of the PROJECT: Creation of the World Studies Resource Center which will be based in the Department of the Foreign Language Literature. The Center will establish the long-term program "Bringing the World Closer". The Kherson Regional Children's Library seeks financial support for the creation of the World Studies Resource Center – a unique center for children's libraries of Ukraine. This center will provide the children of Kherson and the region with an opportunity and the means for research of the world in which they live. Books, films, world music, language learning resources, periodicals, maps, and electronic resources will help the children to learn about life in other countries and to study unique cultures of peoples of the world. Under the program "Bringing the World Closer", activities will be focused on raising the children's understanding of the increased interactions of the modern world, the relationship between Europe and Ukraine, and work towards the establishment of friendly contacts to their peers in the different countries of the world.
Co-operation with national/ethnic minority societies in the Kherson region will allow this project to provide an opportunity to learn more about the languages and cultures of the diverse peoples of the Kherson Region. The participation of these societies will also encourage the involvement of a young generation of representatives of national minorities, which will not only be able to share their cultures with others, but will gain a sense of pride and encourage cross ethnic interactions.
Activities of the Center will not be limited to traditional library services, it will go beyond this role and address the additional educational needs and desires of the children of the region. Through the use of exhibits, classes and clubs the Center will engage the children in an effort to answer questions, encourage creativity, thought and action. The Library will also utilize its network of connections with schools and teachers of the region to encourage utilization of the Resource Center by students and teachers, for both educational assignments as well as intellectual curiosity. Beyond this “built-in” network of clients, we hope to advertise and expand the number and diversity of users of library resources, to reach the maximum number of children possible.
